A Backpacking Master Class: Everything You Need To Know

The life of a backpacker can be pretty seductive to those that have wanderlust in our souls. In fact, it can also be a great way to travel the world while having experiences of genuine culture without breaking the bank too. Of course, before you set if there are a few things you’ll need to know. Something that my post below can help you with.

Do I actually need a backpack?

Well, the answer to this question is yes and no. After all, you can't really call yourself a backpacker if you are pushing a wheelie case, now can you? All joking aside though, this is actually a valid question, and the answer really depends on where about you will be travelling to.

In fact, if you are going to keep to the main international routes and large cities, you may be better off with a wheelie case because they can be much easier to manoeuvre. However, if you plan on getting off the beaten track that is whey a backpack like the ones you can get advice on at Prepared Bee really come into their own. The reason being that you won't necessarily have flat road or paths to negotiate and there is unlikely to be someone to help you with your bags.

After all, a wheelie case isn't going to do you much good in the middle of the Amazon rainforest or in the swamps of Borneo, now is it?

Can I go alone?

The answer to the question is that a high percentage of backpackers, both male and female do go it alone. In fact, in popular travel destinations, you will find that there is usually a well-established backpacker culture centring around the hostels which only requires you to stay there to access.

What this means is that it is super simple to meet new people and tricks up some on the road friendships. In fact, many of these groups then go on to travel together for a while.

You might not even need a backpack to travel!

Where are the best destinations?

Once you have made the decision to go backpacking the next thing you will want to look at is precisely what destinations to visit. Happily, you won't be short of options here because there are so many places that are exciting, culturally rich, and also easy on the budget to choose from.

In particular, there is a significant backpacker movement in Thailand, especially around Bangkok and the other major cities like Chiang Mai. However, other destinations are opening up all of the time, and many backpackers in 2019 are heading to places like Georgia and Lithuania, as well as Mexico and even as far flung as Tanzania.

In fact, even places like Nepal that were previously challenging to get into are becoming easier to access, so you really are spoiled for choice when it comes to picking your destinations.

Of course, the great thing about backpacking is that if you husband your finances conservatively, nothing is stopping you visiting all of these locations over the course of your trip.
