Style: Is it okay to let your bra straps show?

Is showing off your bra straps a fashion faux pas or a bold style statement? Here at Oh! Ducky Darling, we're very much in favour of showing off our tricky strappy friends and turning them into a style statement. Here's why, by Rosa Fairfield.

I get it, a lot of people think showing your bra straps looks tacky or messy. But, honestly, trying to keep your bra straps covered can be way more hassle than it's worth. Even if you manage to have them covered at the start of the day, they can come loose and slip down if you fidget or move around a lot. I don't know about you, but I'll always be the kind of person who ends up looking a bit dishevelled at the end of a day.

Also, is it just me, or is it really hard to tell if your bra is visible or not from the back? You can stretch and crane your neck over your shoulder but sometimes you can just miss the fact that your bra is poking out of the top of your blouse.

So many tops come in shapes that just don't work with a bra. It can feel like a no-win situation. It offends people when: you don't wear a bra, the straps show or your strapless bra falls down because, let's face it, it's difficult for them to stay up.

Yeah, you could make sure your shoulders are covered but sometimes that just ain't practical when your outside in warm weather. When I'm out and about enjoying myself or deep working on a task, the last thing I'm thinking about is if my appearance remains perfect at all times. If I did, I'd just be a mixture of constantly on edge and miserable. Plus, I'd get nothing done.

I mean, it really comes down to common sense. If you work in a job where you're meant to dress smartly, showing your straps probably isn't going to go down well. If you're a freelancer who spends most of the time working in their bedroom, then your dress code can be anything you want it to be. Hey, freelancing may not offer financial stability but it does have its perks.

Apparently, it's also different depending on where in the world you live. See, I do my research when I'm writing a post.

I think bra straps can also be used to create a vibe. Layering these light green straps gave this outfit some extra detailing around the sleeves. Without them, the neck area looked a bit empty. It also draws attention to these fun puffy sleeves. You can have a lot of fun with styling bra straps, even being able to change up the straps on your bra and getting ones with jewels on. It gives you an extra something to work with when layering an outfit.

I know you might be thinking that underwear is meant to be underwear but sometimes it's good to get creative and think outside the box. If we all did everything by that mentality, then we'd never have cake. Eggs and flour are only meant to be eggs and flour, after all. I'm pretty grateful that we have cake in the world.

Styling your bra straps into your outfit, from the start, can take the pressure off. You don't have to worry about them slipping out and becoming visible during the day.
