Look to what's popular
I mean pop art is meant to be art that uses things from popular culture, so it makes sense that you should add this to your home. Look to your favourite TV shows and characters for inspiration. Alongside creating a cool effect, it can also make your home feel a little more you. So, think about what you like... unicorns... avocado... burger and fries? Whatever it is you enjoy, add a splash of it. If all else fails, you can look to comic books, that 'pow' cushion could be just what you need to add some pop art into your life.
I was tempted to call this post: how to add some colour into your home. I didn't do that. But, yep, bright colours are the way to go. It's best to have a colour scheme of about three or two bright colours and then add either some black or white. You want your room to tie together and too many colours could look messy. Again, think about your favourite colours. If you want some inspiration or if you're struggling to think of something, you can try out using prime colours.
To create the desired effect, it's best to stick to simple patterns. Polka Dots are a pretty solid pattern choice, you could also try strips and zig zags. It's also better to break patterns up with block colour so it isn't too overpowering. This is more of a personal preference, but I'd say focus only on one type of pattern, you don't want it to be too much and it gets more difficult to make it look good with the more patterns you have.
Get some artwork
What says pop art better than pop art artwork? I feel like this is a moment to have a shameless bit of self-promotion because yes, I have set up as a freelance artist. Anyway, add some artwork to your home. If you're renting and can't stick things to the walls, there are ways around it. You can add artwork in standup frames on a tall funky looking bookcase. You could also purchase a large board that you can paint and balance against your wall. You can then stick things to this.
Colour and furniture are important but the thing that ties it together and makes it pop is: how everything is ordered. Move things around until you find an order that just seems to click. You want to give the impression that there's space in the room, not that it's overloaded with things. You can look to Pinterest for inspiration.
