How To Dress For In-Between Seasons

As autumn is upon us and there's a chill in the air, it's difficult to know what to wear and trying to bridge the gap between summer and autumn fashion can often be a minefield. But while dressing for the colder months might mean you have to put away your beautiful summer swimwear, but it doesn't mean you have to put away your bright colours and floaty dresses, there are so many things you can do with them. It's really fun to experiment with your favourite pieces, layering, and trying new looks to make sure you wear our favourite wardrobe items every-which-way, no matter the season. Keep the woolly jumpers and padded jackets where they are for now and have some fun with the transition between seasons.

Jackets
It's always handy to have a jacket with you, just in case and you're not going to be quite ready for that big thick coat or gorgeous fluffy jacket just yet, so instead there are a few different options you could go for. A trendy leather jacket goes with pretty much anything, pair with one of your summer midi skirts, a pair of converse and depending on how cold it is; you could pop on a thin jumper or just a t-shirt underneath. Then you have the classic denim jacket which again can go with everything and never go out of style. Denim jackets can go with skirts, dresses, jeans, leggings or whatever you want. Then there's a trench coat which you could layer over your favourite summer dress or jeans. Jackets like this are perfect for carrying with you for when the weather gets a bit chilly, and for taking your outfit from day to night and even better, you can do it in only a few seconds. A denim or leather jacket isn't too dressy, and they will help keep you warm against a chilly breeze, without weighing you down.

Scarves
When the weather is so unpredictable and can change throughout the day, it's great to have a smaller item in your bag that you can throw on, and a cotton or silk scarf is the perfect option. Oversized square scarves can be folded diagonally for a triangular style, and if you get too warm, you can just throw it in your handbag. As an added bonus, you can wrap your scarf over your head if it suddenly starts to rain! There are so many lovely designs for scarves, and they don't cost an awful lot, so you even wear the same jeans and T-shirt each day just with a different scarf, and you'd have a different outfit. Get a big enough scarf, and you can wear it as a shawl if it gets really cold, wrapped around your neck or loosely hung around your neck. It's the perfect in-between, versatile accessory.

Shoes
As the weather turns colder, it's probably is time to put your pretty open-toed sandals away, but before you have to get our those winter boots out, there are lots of options for comfortable, warm and trendy footwear that will go with everything. Ballet pumps are very versatile as you can dress them up or down with jeans, leggings or dresses. Again, they don't have to cost a lot so you can get yourself a few different pairs, so you don't get bored. You could also go for a pair of Converse or Toms for a casual look, but they can go with dresses or trousers. Or opt for some classic brogues which can be worn with barely-there pop socks, or layered up with tights as the weather gets colder.

Jumpsuits
While the weather is sorting itself out, jumpsuits can be a great option to throw on, especially if you choose a style that you can add plenty of layers too! Jumpsuits are so comfy, they are trendy and stylish, and you can wear them anywhere and with anything. Wear one with a denim jacket and some pumps for a laid-back but warm look, or dress it up with some cute heels and a fancy scarf. They are so versatile!

Embrace Layers
Just because the weather's getting colder doesn't mean you have to get rid of your summer clothes straight away. Why not layer a long-sleeved Tshirt under your favourite summer dress, or wear that mini skirt with thick black tights underneath? For extra layering, add a cardigan or an unbuttoned shirt to help keep off the breeze. There were so many slip dresses knocking around this summer that goes really well with a nice jumper or long-sleeved top underneath. The layered look is really on-trend, and you can mix it up and just be ready for any weather while still looking fabulous.

When it comes to between the seasons, you can really have loads of fun with it, don't just mix up the summer and the winter pieces but the trends as well. Keep rocking key pieces of the previous season and don't abandon them for the new trends just yet. Mix and match both the old and new trends. It's the safest way to ensure that you're still considered as stylish regardless of seasonal reference. If all else fails though and you're really not sure what to go with, then just stick to the classics and wear outfits made up of wardrobe staples that are accepted as timeless. Think a basic tshirt, jeans and trainers combo for casual wear and a white button-up shirt, black pencil skirt and heels for those dressier occasions. If you stick to the classics whilst you're figuring what other look you want to go for or what new trends you want to splash out on then you can't go wrong. Remember, the staples are known as staples because they're the most-loved and most-worn items in our wardrobes. Most importantly, have fun with it, treat yourself and experiment. If you don't feel comfortable, change it up the next day, be comfortable, stylish, and you'll look fabulous going into the next season.
