4 Productive Things to Do With Your Home When You’re out Travelling the World

So the typical course of action when you go on holiday is to lock the doors, turn off your utilities, unplug electronics and generally just seal up your home to ensure it’s not been touched when you finally get back. If you’re leaving for an extended period of time then you might even give your keys to your neighbour or family member so they can look after it, but that’s rather boring and we think we’ve come up with a few productive ways to use your home when you’re travelling the world.

1. Rent it out to someone

Got a friend or family member that needs a place to stay for a while? Or perhaps you’d be up for letting someone you don’t know rent your place for some time as a tenant. If you’re gone for a long time then renting out your home isn’t a terrible idea as long as someone manages it. You could ask a friend or family member to do it in return for a bit of the profit, or you could ask a property management service to do it for you. This is going to cost you quite a bit especially if you’ve never done this before and you may need to clear out your home of anything personal before you put up your home for rent.

2. Put it up on Airbnb

Another way to rent out your home is to list it up on Airbnb. If you’re willing to put in a bit of work then you can easily keep your own rooms locked up so your guests don’t touch your personal belongings. A great thing about Airbnb is that there are Airbnb management services to help you look after your property and you can even designate when your property is available instead of having long contracts like you would with renting. This is a great way to make a bit of money to fuel your travels but will take a bit of time to get used to.

3. Let someone house sit

If you’re not interested in having people invade your home for profit then you could always let someone house sit. Perhaps you have a cousin or nephew that could do with their own place for a while or maybe you’re willing to give it up to your family for a bit of time while you’re away. This is a great idea if you’re not looking to make money and just want to do something nice for a young family member. Just make sure they clean up if they decide to party!

4. Sell it!

Again this isn’t the worst idea especially if you love travelling and you’ve found a way to profit off your travels such as blogging as a career choice. If you don’t exactly find yourself longing to come home and love travelling then selling your home can help you fuel your passions for a long time and renting out different places everytime isn’t so bad. Of course, you’ll need to find somewhere to call home, but leaving behind a steady lifestyle for a life of adventure can be a fantastic experience until you find yourself wanting to settle down and start a family.
