“Things change. And friends leave. Life doesn't stop for anybody.” - Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower

I've always been a fan of change, I get restless easily, I like to do new things and see new places. Yet, sometimes in this modern world we live in, it can feel that everything is constantly changing at a rapid pace. You end up constantly moving through jobs, people, relationships... places and it can be hard to process sometimes. Here are my top tips for dealing with change:

Let it go
You can desperately try to hang on to people and try to keep your life exactly the same... but that's not healthy. Things change and you have to accept circumstances as they are and move forward. Trying to hang onto the past will just make you and others miserable. See it as a new chapter in your life, an opportunity not a loss. A chance to have new experiences instead of trying to re-live the old ones.

"You can't start the next chapter of your life, if you keep re-reading the last one."

Don't overthink things
If you have to personally make a life changing decision, it is so easy to overthink it all... to think about every possible scenario and to completely freak yourself out. Sometimes it is best to just listen to your gut... follow your instinct. I think deep down we all know what we really want and you shouldn't let fear of things not working out hold you back.

Positive thinking
I think it's always helpful to focus on the positives... sometimes they can be difficult to see but they are well worth searching for. For example, if a close friend is moving to a different place, think about the opportunity it gives you to make new friends and the adventures you can have with your old friend in that new place.

Talk it through
Sometimes it is good to talk things through, to explain how you are feeling. It can also help bring yourself to a place of acceptance. If you feel like you can't talk to anyone around you, you can write in a journal or talk to people on online app message forums.

Make a change yourself
If your life is moving in a direction you are not happy with, you have a certain amount of power to fix it. Sometimes you can't change the situation but you can change how you deal with it. Make a list and set some goals of positive steps you can take to move forward.

On a final note, I always like to remind myself that things always work out in the end, even if, at the time you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel... but everything becomes a memory in the end.
