I'm 23 years-old a self-employed blogger and a professional actress just starting out on her career. It is safe to say that I really don't have that much money to my name. That being said, I like to travel a lot and it is completely possible on a small budget. Here are my tips for knocking down the price:

Forget the suitcase
Airlines seem to charge a ridiculous extra fee for taking a suitcase. I tend to just pack everything in my hand luggage bag and forget the suitcase if it's not included in the price. You are normally allowed 10kg so it's not too bad. You just have to learn the art of only taking the essentials.

Check out websites like Skyscanner & lastminute.com
I'm always looking at these sites to see if I can find a good deal. You really need to shop around, sometimes it's cheaper to book the hotel and flight together, sometimes separately. lastminute.com have flash sales where you can pick up good deals.

Wait for the sales
Adding on to that point, wait for the sales. These normally happen at the last minute, at Christmas time or occasionally some companies do have flash sales so keep checking back.

If you want to stay longer, rent an apartment
If you are going to stay for a month or more, common sense says it's gonna be cheaper to rent out a room in an apartment. Even better, try a work abroad scheme because sometimes you can get accommodation in return for the work you do.

Try hostels
Hostels are always a good cheap option. They are great it you don't mind slumming it and sharing a room with 6-12 other people. They are pretty basic but to be honest I never end up spending that much time in my room. When I travel I'm always waking around exploring.

2 is better than 1
It always is cheaper to book a holiday for 2 people and share a room that way you can split the cost.

Eat supermarket snacks and walk a lot
I don't tend to eat out when I travel for a few days at all. It doesn't have to be unhealthy either because you can get cheap fruit from the supermarket and pop out to the bakery. It is a great way to save money. I also walk around a lot instead of using public transport, you also get to see places you wouldn't have seen otherwise.

Fly on a Tuesday in February
For some reason, I find that flights on a Tuesday seem to be priced the lowest. I also find that February is a cheap month to fly in. If you haven't got children, don't fly in the school holidays because it will be more expensive.

Don't care about where you go
Sometimes you just have to go where the good deals are because some destinations are a lot more expensive than others.
